The EU competence in the area of health is mainly limited to supporting member states in their health endeavours.

The UK’s vote to leave the EU has added additional significant economic and political uncertainty. While the impact on health and social care services of leaving the EU is impossible to forecast, it is clear that a number of important issues will need to be resolved, five of which have been set out by Helen McKenna, Senior Policy Adviser at The King’s Fund.

  • Accessibility (accessing treatment here and abroad) for immigrants, visitors, pensioner…
  • Regulation to be repeat EU regulation or replace with UK alternatives like working time directive, recognition of professional qualification…

  • Funding and finance.
