HWL Awards and EAHM Award for the best innovative project in Hospital Management

Here are the winners of the 2023 edition.

The awards were handed out by the Presidents and the Secretary Generals of the Federation of Luxembourg Hospitals (FHL) and the European Association of Hospital Managers (EAHM).

The winners of the 2023 HWL Awards were officially announced and celebrated at the Gala evening at Cercle Cité in Luxembourg on 21 September 2023.
Candidates competed in 3 categories: Start-up of the Year, Best Medical Research Project and the EAHM Award for the best Innovative Hospital Management Project.
9 applicants were shortlisted to present their projects in the 3 categories at the pitch sessions on 20 and 21 September.

Medical Research Category :

  1. The Centre de Radiothérapie François Baclesse (CFB) : NHL-CHIREX: Multiprofessional cross-curricular program of theoretical, procedural, technical and non-technical teaching applied to radiotherapy in the Greater Region
  2. ParkinsonNet Luxembourg: Improving quality of life for people with Parkinson’s through quality-based integrated healthcare
  3. The University of Luxembourg: Personalized OrthoCare: Advancing Pelvic Fracture Treatment

Start-up Category :

  1. I-virtual: Caducy
  2. Wavy Meet: Remote Cardiac Rehabilitation Platform
  3. MediNation: Jobs in healthcare and social care in Luxembourg

EAHM Award “Innovation in Hospital Management” :

  1. The South / South West Hospital Group (SSWHG-Ireland): Transforming theatre, a perioperative improvement initiative across 10 hospitals in the south/southwest hospital group (SSWHG)
  2. The General Hospital Maria Middelares Ghent: Implementation of a rapid-recovery as part of patient flow optimization
  3. The Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch (CHEM): La Cellule de planification ; Service de support pour l’accessibilité de la centrale de prise de rendez-vous pour les examens d’imagerie médicale

The Winners are :

In the category « Start up of the Year » :

i-virtual for the project “CADUCY”. Caducy is world’s first CE-certified SaMD (Software as a Medical Device) that allows contactless measurement of physiological parameters through a simple 30-second video selfie.

In the category “Best project in Medical Research”:

The Centre de Radiothérapie François Baclesse (CFB) for the project “NHL-CHIREX: Multiprofessional cross-curricular program of theoretical, procedural, technical and non-technical teaching applied to radiotherapy in the Greater Region”. NHL-ChirEx is an interprofessional cross-border education project that addresses the potential excess of radiation induced morbidity throughout the radiation planning and treatment process.

In the category “ EAHM Award for the best innovative project in Hospital Management ”:

The South / South West Hospital Group (SSWHG-Ireland) for the project “Transforming theatre, a perioperative improvement initiative across 10 hospitals in the south/southwest hospital group (SSWHG)”. This is a data informed, multidisciplinary governance and improvement system that uses lean methodology. It is designed to support hospital teams to identify areas of opportunity informed from their specific theatre data to effectively use their theatre resources.

 

The Luxembourg Ministry of Social Security awarded a special prize to one of the nominees, the Centre de Radiothérapie François Baclesse, which had already won an award in the “Best project in Medical Research” category for the project “NHL-CHIREX”.

EAHM is delighted to have been involved in the first edition of the HWL Awards, which included the EAHM Award for the best Innovative Hospital Management Project. The Award in this category was officially handed over to the winner, the South / South West Hospital Group (SSWHG-Ireland),  by the EAHM President, Lucy Nugent and the Secretary General, Marc Hastert.
