Mission
Eine starke Plattform für professionelles Krankenhausmanagement
Die BUKO bündelt die Perspektiven der Landesorganisationen, vertritt Anliegen des Krankenhausmanagements gegenüber Fachwelt und Entscheidungsträgern und stärkt Führung, Weiterbildung, Innovation und Versorgungssicherheit im österreichischen Gesundheitswesen.

Zentrale Tätigkeitsfelder

Bundesweite Vernetzung
Koordination der neun Landesverbände sowie regelmäßiger Austausch der Präsidentinnen, Präsidenten und Stellvertretungen.

Erfahrungsaustausch
Plattform für Wissen, Kontakte, Managementpraxis und kollegialen Austausch zwischen Führungskräften des Krankenhauswesens.

Gesundheitspolitische Positionen
Erarbeitung und Vermittlung von Stellungnahmen zu Reformen, Finanzierung, Management und Versorgungsfragen.

Aus- und Weiterbildung
Stärkung professioneller Managementkompetenz, unter anderem über das Österreichische Institut für Krankenhausbetriebsführung (ÖIK).

Europäische Zusammenarbeit
Gründungsmitglied der EAHM und aktive Verbindung zwischen österreichischem Krankenhausmanagement und europäischen Partnern.

Kongress, Austausch und aktuelle Fachinformation
Österreichischer Kongress
Der jährliche Kongress für Krankenhausmanagement findet Anfang Mai jeweils in einem anderen Bundesland statt. 2026 nahmen in Eisenstadt mehr als 400 Führungskräfte teil; der 68. Kongress ist für 3.–5. Mai 2027 in Dornbirn angekündigt.
Newsletter & Positionen
Die BUKO versendet monatlich rund 2.700 Newsletter, veröffentlicht aktuelle Fachinformationen und Positionen und führt drei bundesweite Konferenzsitzungen pro Jahr durch.

BUKO brings together the perspectives of its regional associations, voices the priorities of hospital management to experts and decision-makers, and strengthens leadership, education, innovation and reliable healthcare delivery across Austria.

National coordination
Connecting the nine regional associations and supporting regular exchange among their presidents and vice-presidents.

Professional exchange
Sharing experience, contacts, knowledge and management practice among senior leaders in the hospital sector.

Health-policy positions
Developing and communicating positions on reform, financing, management and healthcare-delivery priorities.

Education & leadership
Building professional management capacity, including through the Austrian Institute for Hospital Management (ÖIK).

Contributing as a founding EAHM member and connecting Austrian hospital management with European partners.
Activities & communication
A national congress and continuous professional information
Austrian congress
The annual Hospital Management Congress is held in early May and rotates between federal states. More than 400 healthcare leaders attended the 2026 edition; the 68th Congress is announced for 3–5 May 2027 in Dornbirn.
Newsletter & positions
BUKO distributes around 2,700 monthly newsletters, publishes current information and policy positions, and holds three federal conference meetings each year.
